We would like to welcome everyone to the Solomons Steelers family, and thank you for joining our organization! We hope all the athletes and their families have a great experience with the upcoming 2022 season.
The Solomons Steelers organization is part of the Southern Maryland Youth Athletic Conference (SMYAC).
PLEASE NOTE: The league requires every child to have a State ID, Passport, or Military ID, which must be presented before every game in order to participate in the game. If your child does not have one of these items they will not be allowed to play in that game.
If you are unable to obtain one of these items due to circumstances such as adoption, foster parenting, or any other reason, please inform the Steelers Football Commissioner as soon as possible.
If anyone has any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me anytime.
Thank you,
Jay Johnson

The Southern Maryland Youth Athletic Conference (SMYAC) season runs from August 1st to mid-November, depending on whether a team qualifies for the SMYAC Classic (our playoffs). The top 4-6 teams in each division (depending on number of teams) qualify for the SMYAC Classic playoffs.
Pax River Raiders (PRR), Prince Frederick Eagles (PFE), Huntingtown Hurricanes (HYC), Dunkirk Warriors (DW), Owings Outlaws (OO), Beach Buccaneers (BB), Mechanicsville Braves (MB), Leonardtown Wildcats (LTW), La Plata Blue Knights (LPBK), Waldorf Wildcats (WW), Southern Maryland Hawks (SMH), St Charles Bears (SCB), and King George, VA (KG).
ALL age groups are UNLIMITED WEIGHT.
REMINDER: All tackle football players will be required to have a MD State ID, Military ID card, or Passport.
Our regular season is typically 8 games, followed by playoffs (for those teams that qualify). Playoffs begin Mid-Late November extending for 2 weeks.
Most games are played on Saturdays. However, teams may play weekday evening games on occasion, or in the event of inclement weather or make-up games.
Players will be evaluated by Head Coaches and coaching staff during the initial days of practice to determine placement on American or National teams. There may not be 2 teams for all weight divisions; it is dependent on the number of registered players.
Practices will typically be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights, from 6PM to 8PM. The first night of practice will be held in shorts, T-shirts, cleats (tennis shoes for those that haven’t purchased cleats yet) only. Your respective coaches will provide further guidance on wearing equipment later in the week.
The number of practices during the week will decrease once school starts, typically from 4 nights to 3. Each age group and team is different, coaches will inform families of the practice schedule, and any changes.
Practice is typically held at Southern Middle School (SMS) in Lusby, MD, at the beginning of the season. Practices will move to Cove Point Park once games are underway, usually to coincide with Daylight Savings Time.
Our equipment shed is located at the front of Cove Point Park beside the basketball courts. This is where equipment is issued prior to the start of the season. Once your equipment is issued, if you have problems or questions, please inform the Coach, who will assess if different equipment is needed. Don’t hesitate to ask!
Please Note—Players must return all issued equipment at the end of the season. Failure to do so will result in Solomons Steelers charging parents/guardians a replacement fee for each unreturned item.
